A new year brings new beginnings, new chances, and of course, new resolutions! So why should travel be any different? Let’s make some resolutions to make our travel lives even more epic. Here are a few ideas:
Learn a Skill abroad
Learn something new while you are on your trip. Immerse yourself in the culture of the country you’re visiting. Learn the language and get to know someone new or learn a skill that the area is known for, like making pasta in Italy.
Relax at a wellness spa
2023 has been a year. If you’re like most adults, you’re feeling burned out and drained. On your next trip, visit a wellness spa and be pampered. Many resorts provide travelers with wellness services such as massages, mediation, spas, and more.
Live Abroad
With most jobs being remote and countries opening long-term visas, the opportunity to live in a new country for a few months is now a realistic option. Living abroad is a great way to gain a fresh perspective, not just on a new country, but on your home country as well.
Get Active
Maybe lounging in a beach chair isn’t your idea of fun, and you want to go on an adventure that’ll make your blood rush. Plan out a hike in Hawaii, go ski-diving in Dubai, or go parasailing in Thailand.
Use Those Vacation Days
Time off is necessary for your mental health. Besides being great fun, taking a vacation is also crucial for your health and productivity. Take a whole vacation abroad or get a luxurious hotel room downtown. Whatever you do, get away and use those days.
Go Solo
Gone are the days of waiting for your friends and family before you can book your next trip. If there is someplace you want to go, GO! Book it as a solo trip, and if your friends come around later, they can be added to the reservation. But don’t wait. Don’t miss out on good sales and great experiences waiting on others. In 2024, go alone and love every minute!
Design a Dream Trip
According to a 2010 study published in the Journal Applied Research in Quality of Life, just planning or anticipating your trip can improve your mood. Take the time to plan out what trip you would love to take when the chance comes. Would you dive to check out the great barrier reefs? Visit a hot spring in Japan? Surf the waves in Costa Rica? Tap into that pre-trip bliss by creating the trip of your dreams.
Do a Digital Detox
A digital detox is a break from tech devices such as computers, phones, tablets, and televisions. It focuses on in-person social interactions and spending the day doing activities you enjoy. A digital detox will give you the space to focus your thoughts and reconnect. Bonus if you’re on vacation during your detox.
Go on a Road Trip
While traveling the world by plane feels like a dream, nothing like hopping in a car and exploring landmarks you never knew were there.
Upgrade
I know, I know. Money is tight. You don’t have to do this all the time. But just once in 2024, SPLURGE! Upgrade to first or business class. Get a private car to your resort. Skip that standard room, and get yourself an oceanfront room, a swim-up suite, or butler service. Pick that resort that’s a couple of hundred dollars out of your budget. Just once, upgrade one portion of your next trip.
Wanderlust is defined simply as a strong desire to travel. If this describes you, wander, go someplace, any place. Just don’t sit at home and wish you would’ve.
Happy New Year!!
